Change Windows file associations on .DOCX, .XLSX and .PPTX to Kingsoft Office 2010

Kingsoft Office includes a configuration utility that can easily change Windows file associations. From this application you can assign Kingsoft Writer to Microsoft .DOCX, Kingsoft Spreadsheets to .XLSX, and Kingsoft Presentation to .PPTX. This will allow you to double-click files in Windows Explorer and they will launch in the appropriate Kingsoft Office application. Read below to see how this works.

Change Windows File Associations

The Kingsoft Office Configuration Tool application allows you configure file associations. Do the following to make Kingsoft Office open .DOCX / .XLSX / .PPTX files by default:

Open the Kingsoft Office program group.
Launch the Kingsoft Office Configuration Tools applications.
Click Advanced.
Click the File Associations tab and make sure all options are enabled (see screenshot below).
Click OK.

You will now be able to double-click Microsoft Office Open XML files from Windows Explorer and the appropriate Kingsoft Office application will be launched.

Kingsoft Office 2010 Professional can now open all Office Open XML files. All applications in the suite can open .DOCX documents, .XLSX spreadsheets, and .PPTX presentations. This compatibility is required since starting with Microsoft Office 2007, and continuing with the recently released Microsoft Office 2010, the OpenXML file formats (ECMA-376) have become the default file format of MS Office.

Print2PDF can easily convert a Microsoft Word 2000/XP/2003/2007/2010 document into an Adobe PDF while preserving the table of contents and hyperlinks. The included macro is designed to analyze the document structure and output the PDF, complete with hyperlinks and bookmarks with correct level hierarchy.

Label your bookmark headings with the styles Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, etc. To insert a table of contents, just navigate to where you want the TOC to appear and click Insert – Reference – Index and Tables. Once the Index and Tables dialog opens, click the Table of Contents tab, then click OK. If you are using Word 2007, click the References tab and select a Table of Contents format from the list.

Convert a Microsoft Word document using the Print2PDF macro

To begin document conversion in Microsoft Word, just click the Print2PDF macro on the toolbar. If you are using Word 2007 or 2010, click the Print2PDF tab and select Create PDF. Save the file as normal from the Save As PDF dialog (you can add other features if you like, e.g. encryption, digital ID, etc.).

When you view the converted document in Adobe Reader you will see that bookmarks were created based on the table of contents in the Word document. You can click the bookmarks from the bookmark tab on the left or from the physical table of contents page on the right.

Adobe PDF Conversion

Open an existing document and export to PDF as follows:

Launch Kingsoft Writer.
Click File – Open, select the existing .RTF, .DOC, or .DOCX file and click Open.
Now click the Export to PDF button on the toolbar.
Click the More button.
To make the smallest file size, make sure you disable all Export options.
Click OK to begin conversion.

Kingsoft Office 2009 can convert a Microsoft Word document (DOC, DOCX and RTF) into an Adobe PDF file with notes, annotations and comments from the document reviewer. The native PDF export function allows you to specify if you want to export the comments or not.

Open an existing document with comments or track changes enabled and do the following:

Navigate to where you want the comment to appear.
Click Insert – Comment.
Type the comment and then click outside of the comment bubble to save.
Now click the Export to PDF button on the toolbar.
