Print2PDF provides multiple ways to reduce an existing PDF file size or create a smaller Adobe PDF. If you have the original source file, you can recreate the PDF using the built-in Smallest File Size profile. If the original source file is not available, you can “re-fry” PDF directly from reader. See the full details and instructions below.
Method #1: Recreate the PDF from the original source file using Print2PDF printer
If you have the original source file, all what you need to do is to open the file in the original application and print it to the Print2PDF printer. Do as follows:
- Open the original source file in the original application.
- Click File and then click Print.
- Select the Print2PDF printer, and click OK.
- Once the Print2PDF Save As dialog appears, select the profile Smallest File Size, and click Save.
The new PDF will be created at 96 DPI with compressed page content and ZIP image compression with downsized image resolution.
Method #2: Re-print the PDF to the Print2PDF printer
If you do not have the original source file, your only option will be to re-print the PDF using Adobe Reader (or other PDF viewer). Please note that if your PDF file has special features like metadata, bookmark, file attachments (etc.), these will not convert through the print stream and will be lost. Make a backup of the original PDF before following these steps. Do as follows:
- Open the original PDF in Adobe Reader (or other PDF viewer).
Note: Print2PDF Batch Conversion does not use printer to recreate a new PDF file. So files converted with Batch conversion may not be reduced. You may try to turn on fast web view that in some cases will make the file size smaller.
