Follow these steps to correctly generate your custom MSI installation package(s).

1. Install the PDF Impress 2013 software on a computer that will be considered your primary installation.
2. Activate the software with your purchased product key during installation or in PDF Impress About menu.
3. Set up your Profiles, Watchers and other Settings to your liking.
4. Click on the Create MSI Package in the PDF Impress Settings menu.
5. pdfimpress2013_x64.msi (for 64-bits operating systems) and pdfimpress2013_x86.msi (for 32-bit operating systems) will be created and saved to your Desktop. MSI includes your Profiles, Watchers and other Settings.

To merge PDF files using PDF Impress Extended Save As Dialog, do the following:

1. Create the first PDF file as normal.
2. Print the second document to the PDF Impress printer and attempt to overwrite the first PDF by selecting it in the Extended Save As dialog. Then click Save.
3. The Overwrite or Merge dialog will appear. This dialog will allow you to replace the original file with the new file or merge the new file with the original document.
   
4. Click OK to confirm all settings and create the merged PDF.

Overwrite the file:Will replace the original file with the new file.
Add unique suffix: New document will be created with a unique suffix added to the name.
Merge before the first page: Will merge the new file before the first page in the original document.
Merge after the last page: Will merge the new file after the last page in the original document.
Insert on page: Will insert the new file on the selected page in the original document.

NOTE: PDF Impress can also insert or remove pages from PDF file, or extract pages into new PDF file using PDF Tools or Add, Remove and Extract Pages tasks in profiles or watchers. To access these features, click on the Tools, Profiles or Watchers icon in the main PDF Impress menu.

• Encryption level: Select an algorithm you want to use. By this you also choose the compatibility with specific versions of Adobe Acrobat.

Use following steps to create and print labels with barcode:

1. Open SlimPublisher.
2. Click Create a blank project.
3. Under the Standard Size, pick LABEL type, Size, and click OK.
4. Click on Insert Barcode.
5. Click on Insert UPC/EAN.
6. Select Barcode type.
7. Fill up the required digits and click Next.

File types supported by PDF Impress (Convert To PDF)

PDF Impress can batch convert over 90 file types. Here a just a few: AutoCAD DWF (DWF), Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), Microsoft Excel (XLS, XLSX), Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), Microsoft Visio (VSD), Microsoft Publisher (PUB), Rich Text Format (RTF), HTML , Text (TXT), Adobe PDF (PDF), JPEG (JPG), GIF, Windows Bitmap (BMP), PNG , TIFF , Windows Metafile (WMF) and Enhanced Metafile (EMF).

Using the Convert To PDF Batch Conversion application

The batch conversion application can be used to batch convert multiple files and use any feature available to PDF Impress profile (e.g. encryption, Digital ID, file attachments). Do the following:

1. Launch PDF Impress.
2. Click on Profiles and then Add new profile or Edit selected profile.
3. In Printing preferences define Save PDF to folder.
4. Add or Edit task (e.g. add stamps, watermark, etc.).
5. Click Back button on top left to save profile.
6. Click Convert then the profile you just created.
7. Drag and drop your document(s) into Convert to PDF folder.
8. Click Convert to PDF.
9. All documents will be converted into PDF and saved to Save PDF to folder location.

Using Watchers to batch convert file

Batch conversion can be quickly performed by using watched folders.  Default installation of PDF Impress includes one built-in Watcher with following folder structure:

Source Folder: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\PDFImpressWatcher
Save PDF to folder: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\PDFImpressWatcher\Output
Log and Journal folder:  %USERPROFILE%\Documents\PDFImpressWatcher\Log
Move source to folder: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\PDFImpressWatcher\Error

Any files copied into Source Folder will be automatically converted into a PDF document and saved to the Save PDF folder. Upon successful conversion, the original file will be deleted. If conversion fails the original file will be moved into the Move source to folder. If you like to keep the original files, you can archive them. A daily conversion log and journal is saved into the Log and Journal folder.

More Watchers can be created on demand. When you want to create a new watcher or organize current watchers, click on the Watchers icon in the PDF Impress menu.

Follow these steps to rotate page in PDF document:

1. Launch the PDF Impress application.
2. Click on Tools.
3. Click on Load document icon and browse to the PDF document.
4. Click on Rotate Pages icon.
5. Select page range, page type and rotation angle.*
6. Click Apply and verify the result on left preview window.
7. Click Save Document icon.

• Select range: Select pages from PDF file you want to rotate. You can use predefined values such as First page, Last page, All pages, Even pages, Odd pages or you can enter exact numbers to define pages. For example 1,3-5 would mean that the first page and then pages 3,4 and 5 will be rotated.
• Page type: Select All pages if you want to apply rotation to every page. By selecting Only portrait or Only landscape you define only specific pages to be rotated.
• Rotate clockwise: Choose angle by which the page(s) will be rotated.

Note: If you want to rotate pages during PDF conversation/creation process simply add Rotate Pages task into your PDF Profile. Such profile can be also used for multiple files conversion in Convert to PDF folder or watcher.

Following tasks are currently supported by PDF Tools:

Stamp – Inserting a stamp provides a great opportunity to brand documents with a company logo, official stamp or any other image. This task can be added multiple times. You can choose an image from your computer, set its layer, placement, size, rotation, opacity and a place you want to insert it on.

Watermark - The watermark task allows adding a watermark to all or selected pages of the document. It will identify the content of the document to the reader (e.g Draft, Confidential, etc.). You can choose text you want to apply, select a font, text orientation, visibility, and specify where the watermark will appear in the document.

Attachment – The attachments task provides the opportunity to attach other files as PDF page-level attachments so the reader can open them while viewing the PDF document.

Insert pages – Choose any page(s) from PDF document and add them into other PDF document. You can use this feature to insert standard cover sheet or signature page to every PDF document you create.

Remove Pages – Remove Pages task allows delete page from existing PDF document.

Rotate Pages – Easily rotate individual pages in the PDF document with this task. You can select the page range and page orientation (type) to pick only pages you want to rotate.

Optimize – Advanced optimization options are available. PDF file may contain a lot of interactive elements (annotations, links etc.). Optimization task allows you to remove unwanted elements from PDF file and therefore decrease the file size.

Document Information – PDF document information is metadata that can be used to effectively search and organize PDF documents. Search engines commonly use metadata to effectively index a document.

Page Layout – This task determines which panes and tabs are displayed in the Adobe Reader application when PDF document is opened.

Extract Pages – Easily extract page(s) from the PDF document and store them into a separate PDF file using this task. It can also be used to split PDF document into more files.

Security – This will allow you to limit access to contents in PDF document(s). Adding security to a PDF document provides powerful RC4 or AES encryption, password protection options and permissions control.

Digital Signature – Adding a Digital Signature will ensure the recipient that the PDF document came from you and that you will vouch for the content. The Digital ID will also provide tamper-resistance so the recipient can detect unauthorized changes.

Export to common graphics or HTML 5 – Use a Save As feature and convert any PDF file into .JPEG, .TIFF, .PNG or HTML 5 format.

How to (batch) watermark output on multiple pages

PDF Impress 2013 can add watermark to existing PDF in PDF Tools, or it can be done during PDF creation from the print process. Multiple documents can be watermarked by dragging and dropping them into Convert to PDF profile with watermark task(s) or by using a Watcher with such profile.

Follow these instructions to apply a watermark:

1. Launch PDF Impress and click on the Profile you like to add watermark to.
2. Click Add task and pick Watermark.
3. Type in your text into Watermark field.
4. Select font, fonts size and style.
5. Choose where you want to Insert on, choose All pages, or you can enter a list of pages separated by a comma (e.g. 1,4,8-16).
6. Choose the watermark location by Manually place on the page, or use one of the automatic options (e.g. Center of the page).
7. You can change rotation, layer and opacity of your watermark.
8. Click BACK button on top left to save your Profile with a Watermark task.
9. Print a document to the PDF Impress printer using the Profile you just edited, or drag and drop multiple files into Convert to PDF using the same profile.

Note: Step 2-7 can be repeated for adding multiple watermarks in the same document.

Generate a Self-signed Certificate from PDF Impress 2013

1. Launch PDF Impress 2013.
2. Click on Profiles then double click on Any Profile icon ( e.g. Standard)
3. Click on Add task and add Digital Signature task.
4. Click on create self-signed digital ID here.
5. Enter your information. When you sign a document, this will appear in the Signatures panel.
6. Click OK to generate and store the Certificate.
7. Certificate will be automatically imported into open Digital Signature task.

Generate a Self-signed Certificate from Adobe Reader X

Do the following to generate a self-signed key with Adobe Reader:

1. Launch Adobe Reader.
2. Click on Edit then Protection and after click on Security Settings.
3. Expand Digital IDs on the left and then click the Add ID button.
4. Select A new digital ID I want to create now, and click Next.
5. Select Windows Certificate Store, and click Next.
6. Enter your information, when you sign a document, this will appear in the Signatures panel.
7. Select 1024-bit RSA from the Key Algorithm option (it is the most compatible).
8. Select Digital Signatures and Data Encryption from the Use Digital ID for option.
9. Click Finish to generate and store the ID.

Re-use the Self-signed Certificate with PDF Impress

After you generate the self-signed key, you can use it with PDF Impress. Do the following:

1. Add the Digital Signature task to any Profile.
2. Click Select… in Select Certificate and choose your Digital ID from the list, then click OK.
3. Certificate will be imported into task.
4. Fill the rest of the fields and click Back to main window icon to store task.

Note: Self Signed Digital Certificates use “blank” for password. It provides the same level of document tamper-resistance as paid certificate. However since this certificate is self-signed it does not provide signer identity verification through third party CA.

Image Compression Options:

Image compression provides control over image fidelity in the output PDF document.  There are few different types of compression you can use in PDF Impress:

ZIP: This method is good to use on images with large areas of single colors or repeating patterns. The ZIP method is lossless  which means it will not affect image quality.

JPEG: This method is suitable for moderate sized grayscale and color images. JPEG is lossy, which means that it removes image data and may reduce image quality, but it attempts to do so with minimal loss. You can use the JPEG compression bellow to adjust the amount of compression used.

- Low quality means more compression (smaller file size).

- Medium quality means good balance between quality and file size. We recommend using this option unless you specifically require the smallest file size possible or preserve quality.

- High quality means less compression (larger file size).

CCITT3: Lossless compression method suitable for black and white images. Group 3 encoding was designed specifically for bi-level, black-and-white image data telecommunications.

CCITT3(2D): This is more advanced CCITT3 algorithm that achieves better compression ratio.

CCITT4: This is more efficient form of bi-level compression that has almost entirely replaced the use of Group 3 in many conventional document image storage systems. If you are not sure which CCITT compression use for black and white images, our recommendation is to use CCITT4

Other important options:

Make image grayscale: Enable this option to convert all images in created document to grayscale. This option may dramatically decrease the file size if your images are visually grayscale but are stored as color in your original document.

Make image negative: Sometimes your scanner or other input device can produce images that are negative. By enabling this option you can control conversion back into normal mode.

How to (batch) stamp output on multiple pages

PDF Impress 2013 can stamp with an image file (.bmp, gif, jpeg, jpg, tiff, tif, png, mng, pbm,  pgm, ppm,  xbm, xpm, svg, tga) existing PDF in PDF Tools, or it can be done during PDF creation from the print process.

Multiple documents can be stamped by dragging and dropping them into Convert to PDF profile with stamp task(s) or by using a Watcher with such profile.

Follow these instructions to apply a stamp:

1. Launch PDF Impress and click on the Profile you like to add stamp to.
2. Click Add task and pick Stamp.
3. Click browse “…” button and select the image you wish to use as a stamp.
4. Choose where you want to Insert on, choose All pages, or you can enter a list of pages separated by a comma (e.g. 1,4,8-16).
5. Manually place the stamp on the page, or use one of the automatic options (e.g. Bottom right).
6. You can change rotation, size and opacity of your stamp.
7. Click BACK button on top left to save your Profile with a Stamp task.
8. Print a document to the PDF Impress printer using the Profile you just edited, or drag and drop multiple files into Convert to PDF using the same profile.

Note: Step 2-6 can be repeated for adding multiple stamps in the same document.
