Image Compression Options:

Image compression provides control over image fidelity in the output PDF document.  There are three image compression formats offered in Print2PDF:

JPEG 2000: This is default format used by the program. This method is suitable for large grayscale and color images. JPEG 2000 is a new compression ‘wavelet-based’ standard developed to replace the original JPEG standard. In a moderately compressed image, JPEG 2000 will deliver a level of quality that exceeds the conventional JPEG format by roughly 20%. JPEG 2000 operates in lossy or lossless mode.  Lossy means that it removes image data and may reduce image quality, but it attempts to do so with minimal loss. Lossless means it will not affect image quality. The quality determines which mode is used.  Requires Adobe Reader 6 or greater to view.

JPEG: This method is suitable for moderate sized grayscale and color images. JPEG is lossy, which means that it removes image data and may reduce image quality, but it attempts to do so with minimal loss. The Quality determines the amount of compression used. High quality means less compression (larger file size) and Low quality means more compression (smaller file size).

ZIP: This format is good to use on images with large areas of single colors or repeating patterns. The ZIP method is lossless, which means it will not affect image quality. ZIP compression is always used for images with 256 colors or less and CCITT compression is always used for black and white (1-bit) images.

Other important options:

Downsize image resolution: This option will reduce the resolution of images to the value set in Print resolution. This option is recommended as downsizing images can reduce the size of the PDF file. If the print resolution is greater than the image resolution, Print2PDF will not change the image resolution.

Convert RGB colors to CMYK: Enable this option to convert RGB colors to CMYK.  Make sure you have a CMYK profile associated with the Print2PDF printer.

Method #1: Recreate the PDF from the original source file using Print2PDF printer

If you have the original source file, all what you need to do is to open the file in the original application and print it to the Print2PDF printer. Do as follows:

1. Open the original source file in the original application.
2. Click File and then click Print.
3. Select the Print2PDF printer, and click OK.
4. Once the Print2PDF Save As dialog appears, select the profile Smallest File Size, and click Save.

The new PDF will be created at 96 DPI with compressed page content and ZIP image compression with downsized image resolution.

Method #2: Re-print the PDF to the Print2PDF printer

If you do not have the original source file, your only option will be to re-print the PDF using Adobe Reader (or other PDF viewer). Please note that if your PDF file has special features like metadata, bookmark, file attachments (etc.), these will not convert through the print stream and will be lost. Make a backup of the original PDF before following these steps. Do as follows:

1. Open the original PDF in Adobe Reader (or other PDF viewer).
2. Click File and then click Print.
3. Select the Print2PDF printer, and click OK.
4. Once the Print2PDF Save As dialog appears, select the profile Smallest File Size, and click Save.

The new PDF will be created at 96 DPI with compressed page content and ZIP image compression with downsized image resolution.

Note: Print2PDF Batch Conversion does not use printer to recreate a new PDF file. So files converted with Batch conversion may not be reduced. You may try to turn on fast web view that in some cases will make the file size smaller.

Add digital signature

Print anything to the Software602 Print2PDF printer (e.g. from Notepad) and do the following to add a digital ID:

1. Enable the Add Digital Signature event. TimeStamp feature.
2. Click Edit Digital Signature….
3. Click Select… and select your Certificate from the list, then click OK.
4. Enter the Reason and Location as needed

Define digital signature appearance

If you wish to add a physical representation of your signature, you can insert an image scan of your hand written signature by doing the following in Appearance settings:

1. Enable the Show signature image feature.
2. Click Browse… and select the image with your hand written signature, then click Open.
3. Position the signature in any place in your document using the mouse and a PDF viewer on the left.
4. Enable the Signature text feature and/or
5. Enable the Draw signature validation status… feature if you desire.

Create PDF file with expense report and sign it with your digital certificate /ID.

Print any document or spreadsheet to the Print2PDF printer (e.g. from Microsoft Excel) and do the following to add a digital signature:

1. Enable the Add Digital Signature feature.
2. Click Edit Digital Signature ... .
3. Click Select… and choose your Digital Certificate/ ID from the list, then click OK.
4. Enter the Reason, Location and Contact information as needed.

Verify original petitioner and approve expense report with your digital signature.

1. Open PDF document in Adobe reader.
2. Verify the expense report and the original digital signature of petitioner.
3. Close the Above Reader and right click the document.
4. Click Digital Signature & Timestamp…to add yours digital signature to approve the report.

View PDF document

If you open such PDF document in free Adobe Reader and click the Signatures tab on the left you will see the details on the both digital signatures added by Print2PDF. You can send PDF document through multiple cycles and collect multiple digital signatures to the PDF file with simple right click function.

Inserting Pages
This feature allows you to merge two PDF documents into a single file by inserting the entire content of the first PDF document into any location in another PDF document.

Removing Pages
This option allows you to delete a particular page or pages from a PDF document.

Extracting Pages
This feature allows you to extract one or more pages from an existing PDF document into a new PDF document. You can choose whether you want to keep the extracted pages in the original document or whether you want to have the pages removed from the original document.

Note: Be careful when checking the Delete pages after extraction option:
- If left unchecked, the original file will be retained without any changes and the program will create a new file, which will contain the page or pages that were extracted from the original file.
- If you check this option, the program will basically split the original file by removing the extracted pages and saving them into a new file.

Steps to correctly generate your custom MSI install.

Follow these steps to correctly generate your custom MSI installation package.

Install the Print2PDF 9 software on your server, or choose a computer that will be considered your primary installation.

1. Activate the software with your purchased license during installation or in Software602 Print2PDF start menu.
2. Execute the Create Client MSI Package  from the Software602 Print2PDF start menu
3. Print2PDF_client_x64.msi (for 64-bits operating systems) and Print2PDF_client_x86.msi  ( for 32-bit operating systems) will be created and saved to your  Desktop.

Note: Please be patient, it will takes some time to create MSI packages, two independent utilities (candle.exe, light.exe) will launch in DOS windows  for each package. Additional information is available in product documentation linked from Software602 Print2PDF start menu.

Generate a Self-signed Certificate

Do the following to generate a self-signed key with Adobe Reader:

1. Launch Adobe Reader.
2. Click Document - Security Settings.
3. Expand Digital IDs on the left and then click the Add ID button .
4. Select A new digital ID I want to create now, and click Next.
5. Select Windows Certificate Store, and click Next.
6. Enter your information, when you sign a document, this will appear in the Signatures panel.
7. Select 1024-bit RSA from the Key Algorithm option (it is the most compatible).
8. Select Digital Signatures and Data Encryption from the Use Digital ID for option.
9. Click Finish to generate and store the ID.

Use the Self-signed Certificate with Print2PDF

After you generate the self-signed key, you can use it with Print2PDF. Do the following:

1. Print a document to the Print2PDF printer.
2. Enable the Add Digital ID feature.
3. Click Edit Digital ID…
4. Click Select… and choose your Digital ID from the list, then click OK.
5. Click OK again and choose Save to create the signed PDF.

Add Digital Signature

Print the form to the Print2PDF printer using Adobe Reader and do the following to add a digital signature:

1. Enable the Add Digital ID feature.
2. Click Edit Digital ID.
3. Click Select… and choose your Digital ID from the list, then click OK.
4. Enter the Reason and Location as needed.

Add Hand-written Signature Stamp Image

To add a stamp of your scanned hand written signature, doing the following:

1. Enable the Show image signature feature.
2. Click Browse… and select the image with your hand written signature, then click Open.
3. Select the option Manually place the signature and drag the signature to the location.
4. Adjust the Signature size slider as needed.
5. Click OK to confirm all Digital ID selections.

View Signed PDF Document

Click Save to begin the conversion process. If the Open in Adobe Reader option is enabled, the output will automatically open in your PDF reader. Click the Signatures tab on the left to see the details on the digital signature added by Print2PDF.

Add the Watermark

Just print your document to the Print2PDF print driver, and follow these steps:

1. Enable the Add Watermark option. Click the More >>> button if you do not see it.
2. Click Edit Watermark…
3. Enter the text you desire for Watermark text (e.g. DRAFT PAGE %P).
4. Click OK.
5. Click Save to begin PDF creation.

View Watermarked Document in Adobe Reader

Open the output PDF in Adobe Reader to see the watermarked document. You may need to repeat the print process and adjust the Watermark ink strength until you obtain the desired effect.

Add Attachments

Adding document-level attachments is easy, just follow these steps:

1. Print a document to the Print2PDF printer, or use the Print2PDF Batch Conversion application.
2. When the Print2PDF dialog appears, enable the Add Attachments option (click the More >>> button if you do not see it), and click Edit Attachments…
3. Click Add… and select a file to attach to this PDF document, then click OK when finished.
4. Now click Save (or Convert) to begin the attachment process.

View Attachments in Adobe Reader

Open the output document in Adobe Reader and click the Attachment tab on the left bar (the paperclip icon) to see a list of files attached to this PDF document.

This is perfect for installation on computers not connected to the main Print2PDF installation, or if you have problems with the shared network printer installation. After you generate your custom client, the client installation can be done from a simple .exe program distributed via USB flash or a network share.

Steps to correctly generate your custom client

Follow these steps to correctly generate your custom client. Please be aware that if you do not activate your software before you generate the client, all installations with this build will be trial, and will not be activated:

1. Install the Print2PDF software on your server, or choose a computer that will be considered your main installation.
2. Activate the software with your purchased license using the Product Activation program from the Print2PDF program group.
3. Execute the Print2PDF Prepare Client batch script from the Print2PDF program group.

NOTE: If you have problems with the prepare client script, it can be found in the following location: %ProgramFiles%\Software602\Print2PDF\Client\prepare-client.bat. Run this script with Administration elevation since it requires write access to a location as a parameter (e.g. prepare-client.bat c:\temp\)
